Troy: All right. This is Troy with Champion Plumbing again. We are in Bloomington again today. I’m taking a look at another water heater. My counterpart has already got started on this one. There’s a couple of things that we can show you here that you may have on your house that we would have to change if we pulled the permit and came in.

One of the things was this valve is a saddle valve. It’s self-piercing so it just taps right into the pipe, creating a permanent hole. We can’t use those. We got to cut this out and put an actual shutoff valve on there. Again, we’re stuck with a gate valve that we’re going to get rid of and put a good ball valve on. And Nick has already changed out the gas valve, put a good quarter-turn ball valve in there. It had an old-style that maybe I’ll grab it out of the truck and show you. Oh no, it’s right here. It had this old-style gas valve that has this packing nut on the bottom of it. We can’t have that, these things will leak in the off position, which defeats the purpose of having a gas valve.

A 40-gallon gravity vent again, it’s going up through the chimney. We do have to change the roof cap, I’ll step outside in a second and show you the roof cap that is not allowed, and then the one we’re going to replace with it.
